- Bicentennial Gala March 27

The Town of Penfield's Bicentennial Committee is pleased to invite the community to attend the Penfield Bicentennial Gala, March 27, 6:00 PM at the historic Daisy Flour Mill. The gala is a major event in a full year of celebration of Penfield's 200th anniversary. It will begin with cocktails and music at 6:00 PM followed by grazing stations and entertainment at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $50 per person, each guest will receive a complimentary Bicentennial wine glass.

"The Bicentennial Gala will be a fun evening featuring music, grazing stations, and dancing. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration," said Linda Kohl, Penfield Town Councilwoman and Chair of The Bicentennial Steering Committee. "The setting of the Daisy Flour Mill is a perfect connection to Daniel Penfield's creation of a milling hot-spot along Irondequoit Creek in the late 1700s."

The evening's entertainment includes the Rod Blumenau "All-Star, All-Penfield" Band, the Penfield High School Jazz Choir and Advanced Voice Class, and magic by Mike Dedee.

The Rod Blumenau band members are all Penfield residents: Jazz recording artist JEFF CAMPBELL (bass, professor of jazz bass at the Eastman School of Music, member of the RPO), award winning GABE CONDON (guitar, 2009 graduate of Penfield High and currently a freshman studying jazz guitar at Eastman), ROD BLUMENAU (piano, "musician-about-town," and current accompanist, arranger, and leader of the Bay Trail 7-8th Grade Jazz Ensemble, Penfield Central Schools.)

For dancing entertainment, the band will be joined by CHUCK VAN BUREN (saxophone/clarinet, retired band director and instrumental teacher Penfield Central Schools, and member of many bands on the Rochester music scene, leader of Perinton Concert Band) and ALEX COTE (Penfield High senior, drums, talented young percussionist/vocalist in many styles, performs with his rock band "The Absolutes").

The Penfield High School Jazz Choir, under the direction of Diane Abrahamian, will perform classic jazz standards and popular songs from years past. The talented PHS singers promise an evening filled with high energy and memorable songs.

Supervisor Tony LaFountain said, "It is fitting that the gala will feature the incredible musical talents of Penfield. Our community loves music, and our schools are celebrated for their musicianship. This night will showcase the best of the best in Penfield."

All are welcome to attend. The Daisy Flour Mill is located at 1880 Blossom Rd. (adjacent to Ellison Park). Tickets may be purchased in person at Penfield Town Clerk's Office, 3100 Atlantic Avenue or Penfield Recreation, 1985 Baird Rd. Please make checks payable to Town of Penfield.
