"In the late 70's my brothers and I would walk to 'Playground' at Baird Rd. Elementary School (now the Penfield Community Center). 'Playground' was a recreation department day camp that gave kids the chance to play games like knock-hockey and battle ball. We also did plenty of crafts and had 'pop time' every afternoon. For a quarter, each kid could buy a bottle of soda."

John Taddeo

"We moved to Peachtree Rd. in 1950. We were within walking distance of the "Four Corners", where we did our grocery shopping at Hartung's Market and got our medical needs at Embrey's Drug Store on the corner..."

Dorothy Pankratz

"In the early 1900s...Penfield Road was the main route for farmers from Penfield to take their produce to sell at the Rochester public market. My grandfather was often awakened early in the morning by farmers who were having difficulty driving their heavily loaded wagons up the dugway..."

Paul Barnum

"I remember sitting in front of McGowan's on the concrete steps to watch two or three cars in an hour drive through the four corners intersection."

Robert V. Ockenden

"After getting out of the Navy, I moved my family to Penfield and bought our first house on Valley View Drive in 1955. At that time , we were on the outskirts of the town..."

Hank  Dixon

"I remember riding my tricycle down the middle of Atlantic Avenue from Salt Road towards Harris Road to visit the only other kids around and some days having only farm trucks and tractors forcing me to move off the pavement."
